Mesoscale Discussion 0665
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0915 AM CDT Fri May 22 2020
Areas affected...eastern Oklahoma through western Arkansas
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 201...
Valid 221415Z - 221545Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 201
continues.
SUMMARY...Storms are approaching the eastern bound of WW 201. Some
threat for isolated strong wind gusts may persist through the
remainder of eastern OK into western AR, but threat is expected to
remain too marginal for another WW.
DISCUSSION...Line of storms from southwest MO through eastern OK is
moving east at around 30 kt. Overall trend has been for storms to
decrease in intensity and remain below severe limits. Surface
temperatures are only in upper 60s F downstream from the line with
an inversion also present in the surface to 850 mb layer. Widespread
clouds should slow destabilization of the boundary layer which along
with weak vertical shear should limit organization and intensity
next few hours. Nevertheless, there appears to be enough lift along
the outflow boundary to maintain the storms into western AR where a
couple of strong wind gusts cannot be ruled out.
