Mesoscale Discussion 0733
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
1036 PM CDT Mon May 25 2020
Areas affected...Far Southeast Kansas...Southwest Missouri
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 228...
Valid 260336Z - 260430Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 228
continues.
SUMMARY...An isolated severe threat is expected to continue for
another hour or so across far southeast Kansas and southwest
Missouri. Wind damage would be the main hazard. Weather watch
issuance is not expected beyond the 05Z expiration of WW 228.
DISCUSSION...Radar imagery shows a line of strong thunderstorms
moving northward across far southwest Missouri. Surface dewpoints in
the mid to upper 60s F has maintained weak instability ahead of the
line. In addition, the WSR-88D VWP at Springfield, Missouri has 45
kt of 0-6 km shear with directional shear in the lowest 2 km AGL.
This may be enough for a wind damage threat with small rotating
storms. As instability weakens further over next couple hours, the
threat is expected to diminish.
