NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK

   Areas affected...Southwest and South Texas

   Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 227...

   Valid 260439Z - 260645Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 227
   continues.

SUMMARY...An isolated severe threat is expected to continue across
parts of southwest and south-central Texas for a few more hours.
Damaging wind gusts and hail will be the primary threats.

DISCUSSION...Latest surface analysis shows a 997 mb low across
northern Mexico with backed east to northeast flow across much of
south and central Texas. A moist airmass is present across
south-central Texas with surface dewpoints generally in the lower
70s F. This is contributing to moderate instability with the RAP
estimating MLCAPE in the 1500 to 2500 J/kg range. The strongest
instability is located near the lower Rio Grand River. Regional
WSR-88D VWPs at Brownsville and near Del Rio have 0-6 km shear of 35
to 40 kt. This should be enough to continue an isolated severe
threat over the next few hours. Hail and damaging wind gusts could
occur with the stronger multicells and any storms that exhibit
   supercell characteristics.
