   Mesoscale Discussion 0760
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
   0203 PM CDT Fri May 29 2020

   Areas affected...Central Maryland...eastern Pennsylvania...adjacent
northern New Jersey and southeastern New York

   Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 234...

   Valid 291903Z - 292030Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 234
   continues.

SUMMARY...More rapid thunderstorm intensification, and the evolution
of an increasingly organized cluster of storms with the potential to
produce damaging wind gusts, appears likely across eastern
Pennsylvania into southeastern New York state through 4-6 PM EDT.

DISCUSSION...Convection initiating across and northeast of the Blue
Ridge has evolved into a narrow intensifying line of thunderstorms.
Although low-level flow is modest, deep-layer shear beneath 40-50 kt
southerly 500 mb flow is strong. North-northeasterly storm motions
are allowing for modest easterly low-level inflow emanating from a
moist boundary-layer, which has developed CAPE of 1500-2000 J/kg
with continuing insolation. This may allow for rapid further
intensification and upscale convective growth during the next couple
of hours, as mid-level flow trends more cyclonic and heights fall.
The evolution of an increasingly organized convective system is
possible, which could pose a substantive increase in potential for
damaging wind gusts as an associated surface cold pool and mid-level
   rear inflow strengthen.
