Mesoscale Discussion 0785
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0532 PM CDT Tue Jun 02 2020
Areas affected...southern Minnesota...northern Iowa...and much of
Wisconsin
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 239...
Valid 022232Z - 030030Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 239
continues.
SUMMARY...Damaging hail and wind is expected to spread
east/southeast from southern Minnesota across northern Iowa, and
into much of Wisconsin where an additional watch may be needed.
DISCUSSION...Cells have become severe over southern MN near the wind
shift, and approaching the surface pressure trough where
temperatures are hot. The deeply mixed boundary-layer, substantial
instability, and influence of the approaching shortwave trough
support increasing storm trends this evening as they continue
east/southeast into northern IA and western WI.
Other storms north of the wind shift over northwest WI may
eventually become better rooted in the boundary-layer as outflow
deepens and supports propagation. Eventually, these storm systems
may merge outflow boundaries. Central and southern WI is strongly
unstable, and should support a continued severe threat as storms
approach this evening. As such, an additional watch may be needed.
