   Mesoscale Discussion 0820
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
   0341 PM CDT Thu Jun 04 2020

   Areas affected...Northern/Central VA...Western/Central
   MD...Central/Eastern PA...Eastern WV Panhandle

   Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 250...

   Valid 042041Z - 042215Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 250
   continues.

SUMMARY...Threat for hail and damaging wind gusts will persist for
   the next few hours.

DISCUSSION...Predominantly cellular storms have develop across
central PA, with numerous storm splits observed. Straight hodograph
depicted by recent KPBZ VAD data suggests an environment favorable
for splitting cells, which matches the observations well. While many
of the cells are shallow and disorganized, cells in Juniata/Perry,
Dauphin, and Franklin counties appear to be supercellular and moving
to the right of the mean wind. Threat for hail and damaging wind
gusts will continue from central PA into eastern PA over the next
   few hours.

Farther south along the higher terrain of western MD and eastern VA,
a more outflow-dominant storm mode has been noted thus far. Updrafts
have struggled to maintain intensity as they develop along these
outflow. Slightly better updraft organization and longer maintenance
has begun over, and in the vicinity of, the eastern WV Panhandle
where better vertical shear exists. Threat for hail and damaging
wind gusts will also persist over this area for the next few hours.
