Mesoscale Discussion 0834
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
1131 PM CDT Thu Jun 04 2020
Areas affected...Texas South Plains
Concerning...Severe potential...Watch unlikely
Valid 050431Z - 050630Z
Probability of Watch Issuance...20 percent
SUMMARY...Locally severe wind gusts, with some threat for isolated
hail, will be noted for the next few hours across the TX South
Plains.
DISCUSSION...Deep convection that developed along the dry line over
the TX/OK Panhandle region has evolved into a larger complex of
storms over the TX South Plains. This activity has persisted longer
than earlier anticipated and recent CAMs suggest. However, given the
cold pool that has formed it appears the MCS may actually propagate
another 50-100mi or so before gradually weakening, especially given
the LLJ that is observed across the southern High Plains. Damaging
winds have been noted with this convection but the questionable
duration may not warrant a new watch.
