Mesoscale Discussion 0847
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0724 PM CDT Fri Jun 05 2020
Areas affected...northern Utah...southwest Wyoming
Concerning...Severe potential...Watch unlikely
Valid 060024Z - 060200Z
Probability of Watch Issuance...5 percent
SUMMARY...Isolated damaging winds gusts are possible with relatively
shallow convection across northern Utah and southwest Wyoming. A
watch issuance is unlikely.
DISCUSSION...High-based convection with occasional lightning is
moving northward across northern Utah and southwest Wyoming. Given
the deep and very dry sub-cloud layer (50+ F dewpoint depressions),
damaging wind gusts are possible. These storms may continue after
sunset given the forcing for ascent spreading over the region
associated with an upper-level trough moving over the West Coast.
However, these storms are being driven and sustained by insolation
and terrain circulations. Given the isolated marginal severe wind
threat, a watch issuance is unlikely.
