Mesoscale Discussion 0858
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0549 PM CDT Sat Jun 06 2020
Areas affected...Florida Peninsula
Concerning...Severe potential...Watch unlikely
Valid 062249Z - 070115Z
Probability of Watch Issuance...20 percent
SUMMARY...Transient rotating storms remain possible across the
Florida Peninsula through this evening. Isolated damaging wind gusts
and a brief tornado or two are possible with these storms.
DISCUSSION...Tropical Storm Cristobal continues to slowly moving
northward in the Gulf of Mexico with its outer bands beginning to
reach portions of the Florida Gulf Coast. Multiple rotating storms
have been observed across the central Florida Peninsula, however,
most of storms have had rotation intensify and dissipate relatively
quickly. Storm relative helicity 0-1 km of 75-200 m2/s2 per
mesoanalysis and KTBW and KMLB VADs indicate the potential remains
for rotating storms, especially near any enhanced surface
convergence and easterly flow on the peninsula. The tornado threat
will keep shifting northward with time this evening, although, there
is potential for rotating storms to develop across south/central
Florida later tonight. Given the relatively isolated, marginal
threat, a watch issuance is not anticipated at this time.
