Mesoscale Discussion 0862
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0838 PM CDT Sat Jun 06 2020
Areas affected...northeast Florida
Concerning...Severe potential...Watch unlikely
Valid 070138Z - 070345Z
Probability of Watch Issuance...20 percent
SUMMARY...A few rotating storms are present over northeast Florida
with a MCV north of Orlando moving east-northeast. An isolated
tornado and damaging wind threat remains.
DISCUSSION...Multiple rotating storms have been observed across
central/north-central portions of the Florida Peninsula this evening
including at least one likely tornado. A couple of convective cells
are northeast of the MCV, and these features represent the most
immediate severe threat. Storms are likely to continue moving
northeast and stay on land for the next couple of hours. A brief
tornado or two remain possible and damaging wind gusts are also
possible. The threat will likely remain confined to northeast
Florida with some veering surface winds behind the storms. However,
observations and guidance suggest the severe threat will increase
again over southwest/western Florida tonight and will likely be
addressed in a future MCD.
