Mesoscale Discussion 0865
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0218 AM CDT Sun Jun 07 2020
Areas affected...far northeast ND into northern and east-central MN
Concerning...Severe potential...Watch unlikely
Valid 070718Z - 070915Z
Probability of Watch Issuance...20 percent
SUMMARY...Thunderstorms will continue developing northeast
overnight. Some locally gusty winds or hail could briefly occur, but
overall threat is expected to remain low.
DISCUSSION...Areas of convection continue to lift northeast tonight,
with several bands extending from northeast ND into northwest and
east-central MN. This convection is elevated and will continue to
move away from area of greater instability. Storms will also
continue to spread northeast away from strong effective shear.
Nevertheless, some elevated instability will remain across the
region with modest shear profiles supporting some loosely-organized
line segments. While severe potential will remain low given the
modest environment and strong boundary layer inhibition, some gusty
winds or hail could briefly accompany the strongest cells overnight.
