   Mesoscale Discussion 0868
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
   1128 AM CDT Sun Jun 07 2020

   Areas affected...Northern/northeast UT...Southwest WY...Far
   Southeast ID

   Concerning...Severe potential...Watch possible

   Valid 071628Z - 071830Z

   Probability of Watch Issuance...40 percent

SUMMARY...Thunderstorms are expected to persist across
northern/northeast UT into southwest WY and far southeast ID over
the next few hours. The strongest storms could produce hail and
   strong wind gusts.

DISCUSSION...Observations reveal that lightning activity in the
cluster of storms moving across north/northeast UT has increased
over the past hour. This increase in likely a result of updrafts
strengthening/deepening amid both persistent forcing for ascent and
modest destabilization from increasing mid-level moisture and
daytime heating. Downstream air mass across far northern/northeast
UT and adjacent southwest WY remains relatively cool but the strong
forcing for ascent and daytime heating should still result in
persistence of the ongoing cluster. Some additional development
farther back northwest into far southeast ID is also possible.

Buoyancy will remain limited throughout much of the day, potentially
leading to somewhat transient updrafts. Even so, the strength of the
mid-level, and resulting strong vertical shear, will result in the
potential for a few organized storms capable of hail and strong wind
   gusts.
