Mesoscale Discussion 0871
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0241 PM CDT Sun Jun 07 2020
Areas affected...northern Florida southern Georgia
Concerning...Severe potential...Watch unlikely
Valid 071941Z - 072145Z
Probability of Watch Issuance...20 percent
SUMMARY...Several miniature supercells associated with the rainbands
of TS Cristobal may pose a brief tornado threat for the next few
hours. A watch is likely not needed.
DISCUSSION...As of 1 pm CDT The National Hurricane Center had
Tropical Storm Cristobal located at Location: 28.8 N 89.9 W moving
north at 5 mph. An exterior rainband of TS Cristobal is interacting
with a differential heating zone across northern Florida. Recently,
a few weak low-level mesocyclones have been observed with storms
embedded in the precipitation band. These storms may pose a risk for
a brief weak tornado given 0-1 km srh of 100-200 ms/s2. Some
clearing ahead of the rainband and differential heating zone will
allow weak instability of 500-100 J/kg of MLCAPE to support updrafts
through this afternoon. Given the relatively brief and marginal
nature of the threat, a watch is unlikely.
