Mesoscale Discussion 0874
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0555 PM CDT Sun Jun 07 2020
Areas affected...eastern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota
Concerning...Tornado Watch 267...
Valid 072255Z - 080100Z
The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 267 continues.
SUMMARY...Ongoing and developing supercells are moving
north-northeast across eastern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota.
All severe threats remain possible and it appears the tornado threat
is increasing.
DISCUSSION...Enhanced surface convergence near north-to-south
oriented surface troughing and an outflow boundary are helping to
initiate supercells in far eastern North Dakota and northwest
Minnesota. Storms are beginning to exhibit stronger rotation and
low-level shear is most favorable where the supercells are currently
developing near the outflow boundary and towards the warm front
draped northwest to southeast across northwest Minnesota. This
corridor of enhanced low-level helicity (200-400 m2/s2 per
mesoanalysis) will likely be a focus for tornadic supercell
development. Given the strong deep layer shear and large
instability, large hail and damaging winds will also be likely with
any storm development.
