Mesoscale Discussion 0875
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0600 PM CDT Sun Jun 07 2020
Areas affected...South Dakota...Nebraska
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 268...
Valid 072300Z - 080030Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 268
continues.
SUMMARY...Severe threat will increase markedly over the next few
hours. Hail and wind are the main threats.
DISCUSSION...Strong low-level heating has contributed to a deep
boundary layer across the northern/central High Plains late this
afternoon. This has effectively removed inhibition and and deep
convection is increasing along the frontal zone from Cherry County
NE to McPherson County SD. Numerous hail markers are now evident
with these supercells, and with cloud bases near 3km, gusty winds
can also be expected.
Additionally, a few robust thunderstorms are now intensifying along
the southern periphery of the Black Hills. This activity should
spread northeast toward ww269 later this evening. Hail/wind remain
the primary threats.
Overall, an expansive corridor of strong-severe convection should
ultimately evolve across this region over the next several hours.
