Mesoscale Discussion 0879
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
1133 PM CDT Sun Jun 07 2020
Areas affected...North Dakota...Northwestern Minnesota
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 269...
Valid 080433Z - 080600Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 269
continues.
SUMMARY...Isolated severe threat continues across ww269.
DISCUSSION...Weak mid-level short-wave trough is lifting
north-northeast across ND late this evening. This feature appears to
be partly responsible for organized convective cluster that has
shifted across eastern ND into northwest MN. While gusty wind may be
accompany this activity, weaker instability downstream suggests
severe threat is considerably lower.
Behind this convection, over the last few hours, strengthening LLJ
over SD has contributed to new thunderstorm activity near the
frontal zone. Hail cores have gradually decreased with these
updrafts but isolated severe should persist into the early morning
hours which should track back into southern portions of the watch.
While the overall severe threat appears to have waned somewhat,
hail, along with some wind threat, remain possible.
