Areas affected...eastern north Dakota through northwest Minnesota

   Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 270...271...

   Valid 082350Z - 090145Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 270, 271
   continues.

SUMMARY...Potential will exist for widely scattered thunderstorms to
continue developing into mid evening mainly from northeastern North
Dakota to northwest Minnesota. Isolated large hail and damaging wind
   are the main threats.

DISCUSSION...Early this evening a cold front extends from extreme
northwest MN through eastern ND. RAP analysis shows a weak impulse
exiting ND and moving northeastward into southern Manitoba. Despite
presence of moderate to strong instability with up to 2500 J/kg
MLCAPE, there has been a tendency for storms to struggle to maintain
intensity during the past couple hours, possibly due to limited deep
forcing in presence of a mid-level capping inversion. An increase in
frontogenetic forcing is expected toward mid evening as the
low-level jet strengthens. However, a temporary lull in more robust
thunderstorm development may persist next couple hours, especially
in ww 271 in wake of lead impulse and as the surface layer
   stabilizes.
