   Areas affected...eastern Kentucky...far southern Ohio...southwest
   West Virginia

   Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 278...279...

   Valid 102345Z - 110115Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 278, 279
   continues.

SUMMARY...A broken line of storms continues to move east-northeast
across eastern Kentucky. Marginally severe hail/wind are the main
threats with these storms and they are likely to move outside the
watch in the next 1-2 hours. A watch extension of WW278 and WW279
   may be necessary.

DISCUSSION...Cell motions are to the northeast with the line moving
more east-northeast across eastern Kentucky along/ahead of a
pre-frontal trough extending north-south across the Great Lakes/Ohio
Valley. As the upper-level shortwave trough begins to pivot more to
the northeast over the southern Great Lakes, the stronger
flow/forcing for ascent will begin to lift northeast as well.
However, strong enough flow remains to support 30-40 knots of
effective bulk shear, and heights are continuing to fall along/just
ahead of the current line of storms. The cold pool is weaker across
this southern part of the line than farther north across Ohio, also
indicating lower-end severe potential. Insolation and surface
dewpoints in the low 70s F have resulted in MLCAPE of 1000-2000 J/kg
and while longer term trends are working against severe potential,
marginally severe storms could continue across this area for the
next 1-3 hours. Given this temporal/spatial window, a local watch
extension to WW278 and WW279 may be necessary, but the bulk of the
storms should move into the current configuration of WW279.
