   Mesoscale Discussion 0916
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
   0513 PM CDT Sun Jun 14 2020

Areas affected...the northern half of Georgia and vicinity

   Concerning...Severe potential...Watch unlikely

   Valid 142213Z - 142345Z

   Probability of Watch Issuance...5 percent

SUMMARY...Risk for gusty winds from a couple of stronger storms --
with minor tree damage locally -- will continue for a couple of
hours. Marginal hail may also occur with one or two of the
   strongest updrafts.

DISCUSSION...A band of showers and scattered thunderstorms continues
over the central and southern Appalachians area, within a background
environment featuring modest CAPE and weak shear. Locally across
the northern Georgia vicinity, a few stronger storms have evolved,
within a small area where mixed-layer CAPE is maximized (RUC-based
objective analysis suggestive of 500 to 1500 J/kg).

The strongest storms are occurring in/near Cherokee County GA, near
a very weak/subtle surface low. While the deep-layer wind field is
weak/disorganized through the lowest several km per the KFFC WSR-88D
VWP, 20 to 25kt mid-level northwesterly flow may aid in
continued/modest clustering/longevity of the storms locally, and
thus a few stronger gusts, and possibly marginal hail, will remain
possible for the next couple of hours, prior to the onset of gradual
   diurnal cooling.
