Mesoscale Discussion 0942
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0906 PM CDT Fri Jun 19 2020
Areas affected...Parts of North Texas...the Big Country...and Concho
Valley
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 285...
Valid 200206Z - 200400Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 285
continues.
SUMMARY...A band of strong/severe storms continues moving
east-southeastward across portions of northern and into central
Texas.
DISCUSSION...Latest radar loop shows a disorganized/arcing band of
storms -- north of a surging west-to-east outflow boundary -- draped
across North Texas at this time, while a stronger north-south band
of storms moves eastward out of the South Plains/Panhandle. This
eastward-moving band of storms has evolved largely as anticipated,
though fast southward surging of the outflow to the east has
occurred. The result is that storms crossing western North Texas
will remain slightly elevated -- though locally damaging winds and
marginal hail remain possible with the more robust updrafts.
Farther south along the convective band, near the intersection of
the band with the southward-moving outflow, greater risk for locally
damaging winds would appear to exist.
With a broad area of amply unstable air south and east of ongoing
storms, it is likely that the convection will continue spreading
southeastward across central Texas. However, weak mid-level flow
should tend to limit overall severe risk, such that any downstream
WW remains questionable. We will continue to monitor convective
evolution as it pertains to any potential for additional WW
issuance.
