Mesoscale Discussion 0997
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0211 PM CDT Thu Jun 25 2020
Areas affected...Central and eastern Wyoming
Concerning...Severe potential...Watch unlikely
Valid 251911Z - 252115Z
Probability of Watch Issuance...20 percent
SUMMARY...A few damaging wind gusts and marginally severe hail will
be possible with scattered thunderstorms this afternoon. Given
limited convective organization, no WW is anticipated.
DISCUSSION...Ascent from an approaching weak mid-level shortwave has
promoted thunderstorm development along the higher terrain in
central/eastern WY. With only 30-40 kts of mid-level flow being
sampled by regional VADs, effective shear of around 30-40 kts will
support marginally organized convection this afternoon. The main
limiting factor will be weak buoyancy given generally upper 40s F
dewpoints. A few storms may produce damaging wind gusts as well as
marginally severe hail. A WW is not anticipated.
