Mesoscale Discussion 1003
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0622 PM CDT Thu Jun 25 2020
Areas affected...Eastern Alabama and southern Georgia
Concerning...Severe potential...Watch unlikely
Valid 252322Z - 260045Z
Probability of Watch Issuance...5 percent
SUMMARY...Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to continue
for a few more hours. Large hail and damaging winds will be the
primary threats.
DISCUSSION...Storms have recently developed in eastern Alabama and
southern Georgia where the airmass has not undergone much convective
overturning yet today. Effective shear is weak (~20-25 kts per
VAX/EOX VWP) with MLCAPE around 1500 to 2000 J/kg per SPC
mesoanalysis. This environment will continue to support multicell
clusters for the next few hours. Isolated damaging winds are
possible where strong, water-loaded downdrafts reach the surface,
but the threat for more widespread damaging winds should be limited
due to the weak lower tropospheric flow.
