Mesoscale Discussion 1037
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0211 PM CDT Sun Jun 28 2020
Areas affected...from northeast Wyoming into southeast Montana and
the western Dakotas
Concerning...Severe potential...Watch likely
Valid 281911Z - 282115Z
Probability of Watch Issuance...80 percent
SUMMARY...Storms will increase in coverage and intensity this
afternoon with damaging winds and hail expected.
DISCUSSION...Heating has eroded capping over the higher terrain of
WY, with storms forming over Johnson county. Ample moisture exists
downstream with dewpoints in the 50s F, despite the post-frontal
regime. Continued heating over WY and MT will weaken capping enough
for outflow-driven storms to persist northeastward for several
hours, producing damaging wind gusts. Cool temperatures aloft will
also favor hail. Storms will may weaken over the western Dakotas
this evening as stronger CIN is encountered.
