Mesoscale Discussion 1068
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0540 AM CDT Wed Jul 01 2020
Areas affected...Portions of western/central MO
Concerning...Severe potential...Watch possible
Valid 011040Z - 011145Z
Probability of Watch Issuance...40 percent
SUMMARY...Some severe/damaging wind threat may persist with a line
of storms this morning. Watch issuance is possible.
DISCUSSION...A small but well-organized bow over near the Kansas
City metro has produced a couple of measured severe wind gusts over
the past couple of hours. There is some concern that this line may
continue southeastward along an instability gradient this morning
while continuing to produce isolated severe/damaging wind gusts.
Large-scale forcing for ascent should remain weak as a southwesterly
low-level jet gradually diminishes. But, cold pool dynamics and
evidence of a rear-inflow jet within the line suggest that it may
nonetheless continue into parts of central MO for at least the next
few hours while posing a threat for isolated damaging winds. Watch
issuance is possible, and current radar and environmental trends are
being closely monitored.
