Mesoscale Discussion 1154
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0716 AM CDT Thu Jul 09 2020
Areas affected...Far Southeast Kansas...Northeast
Oklahoma...Northwest Arkansas...Southwest Missouri
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 347...
Valid 091216Z - 091415Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 347
continues.
SUMMARY...An isolated wind-damage threat will likely continue from
northeast Oklahoma into southwest Missouri over the next couple of
hours. Northwest Arkansas may also be impacted. Weather watch
issuance is not expected beyond the 15Z expiration time of WW.
DISCUSSION...The latest radar imagery shows a line of strong
thunderstorms behind its own outflow boundary from northern Oklahoma
into far southeast Kansas. The line will continue to move
south-southeastward this morning into a pocket of moderate
instability from northwest Oklahoma into northwest Arkansas. MLCAPE
is estimated to be in the 1500 to 2000 J/kg range along this
corridor and surface dewpoints are in the lower to mid 70s F. This
combined with 0-6 km shear of 25 to 30 kt, evident on the Tulsa and
Springfield WSR-88D VWP may be enough for an isolated wind-damage
threat this morning. This threat could increase a bit over the next
hour or two as surface temperatures begin to rise.
