Mesoscale Discussion 1232
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
1255 PM CDT Wed Jul 15 2020
Areas affected...Portions of southern Florida
Concerning...Severe potential...Watch unlikely
Valid 151755Z - 151930Z
Probability of Watch Issuance...5 percent
SUMMARY...A few damaging wind gusts are possible this
afternoon/early evening.
DISCUSSION...Thunderstorms have started to develop in south-central
Florida and along the sea breeze along the western shore. Expect
additional storms to develop in the next 1 to 2 hours along
intersecting outflow boundaries amid ~2500 J/kg MLCAPE per SPC
mesoanalysis. In addition, the 12Z MFL/TBW RAOBs showed modest 6.5
C/km mid-level lapse rates. Shear is very weak (less than 10 kts in
both RAOBs), but the thermodynamic environment should support some
strong single cell storms capable of producing isolated damaging
winds as they collapse.
