   Mesoscale Discussion 1276
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
   1219 PM CDT Sun Jul 19 2020

Areas affected...northeastern Illinois across northern Indiana

   Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 384...

   Valid 191719Z - 191845Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 384
   continues.

SUMMARY...Organized storms/severe risk continues spreading across WW
384, with a recent convective increase near and just south of the
   southern fringe of the watch.

DISCUSSION...Latest radar loop shows storms moving across the
northeastern Illinois/northwestern Indiana state line, and adjacent
portions of southern Lake Michigan, where local risk for damaging
winds continues. Meanwhile, a flanking band of storms -- from
northwestern Indiana west-southwest into east-central Illinois has
increased in intensity over the past hour -- with an 86 MPH wind
gust recently reported from Jasper County Indiana.

This convective increase is occurring within a band of moderate
instability (2000 J/kg mixed-layer CAPE), that extends from southern
and eastern portions of the watch southward into central portions of
Illinois and Indiana. While area VWPs and model forecasts continue
to show the deep-layer wind field decreasing rapidly in intensity
with southward extent, areas just south of the ongoing WW will
continue to be monitored for the need for a small watch over central
   Indiana.
