Mesoscale Discussion 1308
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0815 PM CDT Tue Jul 21 2020
Areas affected...southeast Wyoming/eastern Colorado and vicinity
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 392...
Valid 220115Z - 220245Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 392
continues.
SUMMARY...Local severe risk continues with isolated intense storms,
but a gradual diminishing trend will continue this evening. While
risk may briefly spread a bit east of the existing watch, a new WW
is not expected due to the overall convective decrease that is
anticipated.
DISCUSSION...Latest radar loop shows a gradual decrease in storm
intensity over the past hour or so, though convective coverage has
remained largely unchanged. Storms have largely moved off the
higher terrain, and are spreading eastward across the High Plains,
as southeasterly low-level winds have strengthened slightly across
the area.
The gradual decreasing trend in storm intensity will continue over
the next couple of hours -- with storm coverage likewise expected to
begin trending downward. In the mean time, local risk for
gusty/damaging winds and hail will continue with a couple of the
strongest storms across far southeastern Wyoming, and southward
across northeastern and east-central Colorado.
