Mesoscale Discussion 1316
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0355 PM CDT Wed Jul 22 2020
Areas affected...eastern PA/MD...DE and NJ
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 393...394...
Valid 222055Z - 222230Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 393, 394
continues.
SUMMARY...Locally damaging wind gusts will continue this afternoon
into early evening as storms track eastward out of WW 393 and into
WW 394.
DISCUSSION...Clusters of strong to severe thunderstorms extended
from near Northampton County in PA southward along the western banks
of the Chesapeake. Measured gusts to 50 kt have been reported, with
more widespread gusts of 40-45 kt noted, in addition to sporadic
wind damage across the region. This should continue as storms track
eastward across a strongly unstable airmass with very steep low
level lapse rates and high PW values. Wet microbursts embedded
within the larger complex of storms will continue to be the main
concern with this activity as storms move out of WW 393 and into WW
394, though a few more discrete/isolated cells across northern NJ
earlier this afternoon also produced marginally severe hail.
