Mesoscale Discussion 1326
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0600 PM CDT Thu Jul 23 2020
Areas affected...Southwest ID
Concerning...Severe potential...Watch unlikely
Valid 232300Z - 240030Z
Probability of Watch Issuance...20 percent
SUMMARY...Isolated severe wind and marginal hail will be possible
through about 02Z across parts of the Snake River Valley.
DISCUSSION...Strong to locally severe convection is ongoing across
far southwest ID. This activity appears to be tied to a subtle MCV
that is slowly moving east-northeast. 20-25 kt mid-level
southwesterlies per the CBX VWP in conjunction with surface
temperatures still holding around 90 F will be supportive of
isolated severe wind gusts as small multicell clusters evolve across
portions of the Snake River Valley. The strongest updrafts will also
pose a risk for marginally severe hail. These threats should wane
later this evening as convection eventually spreads towards the
Sawtooths.
