Mesoscale Discussion 1344
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
1213 PM CDT Sun Jul 26 2020
Areas affected...south Texas
Concerning...Tornado Watch 403...
Valid 261713Z - 261915Z
The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 403 continues.
SUMMARY...A modest threat for a couple of brief tornadoes will
persist this afternoon across south Texas.
DISCUSSION...Convective rainbands in the eastern semi-circle of
tropical storm Hanna continue spreading inland from the western
Gulf. Latest VWP and objective analysis indicate 0-1 km storm
relative helicity from 150-250 m2/s2, and while not particularly
large, low-level shear remains at least sufficient for a threat of
low-level mesocyclones. Greater 0-1 km helicity is displaced west of
the stronger surface destabilization which is occurring closer to
the coast, and character of the convection has been somewhat
disorganized overall. As Hanna continues in a west southwesterly
direction, 0-1 km hodographs should undergo a gradual decrease. In
the meantime, at least a modest threat for a couple of tornadoes
will persist through mid afternoon.
