Mesoscale Discussion 1360
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0819 PM CDT Thu Jul 30 2020
Areas affected...Southeast OK...Northeast TX...Southwest AR
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 405...
Valid 310119Z - 310215Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 405
continues.
SUMMARY...Severe threat is increasing across southeast OK into
southwest AR/northeast TX.
DISCUSSION...Earlier convection that evolved along a pre-frontal
confluence zone over south-central OK has grown upscale into an MCS
that is propagating across southeast OK. An apparent MCV is evolving
southwest of MLC and this is partly responsive to the surging line
segment that is moving east-southeast in excess of 40kt over
Atoka/Bryan County area. Earlier this line segment produced an 81
mph wind gust at the Sulphur mesonet site. There is some concern
this activity will propagate east of the watch into portions of
southwest AR/northeast TX before it weakens. Some consideration is
being given to a new severe thunderstorm watch downstream.
