Mesoscale Discussion 1491
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0453 PM CDT Fri Aug 14 2020
Areas affected...MN
Concerning...Tornado Watch 437...
Valid 142153Z - 142330Z
The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 437 continues.
SUMMARY...Severe threat continues across central and eastern
portions of ww437. New ww may be required soon downstream.
DISCUSSION...Leading edge of large-scale forcing for ascent is
spreading quickly east across the upper MS Valley ahead of a strong
short-wave trough that is currently located along the MN/Dakota
border. Surface low is lifting northeast into western ON and this
should allow the warm sector to advance north across portions of the
MN Arrowhead over the next few hours. This baroclinic zone will
remain the primary focus for downstream development over the next
few hours.
Scattered storms continue ahead of the cold front across the body of
ww437. This activity will spread/develop northeast over the next few
hours, with the leading portion of this convection expected to exit
eastern portions of the tornado watch over the next 1-1.5hr.
