   Mesoscale Discussion 1589
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
   0141 AM CDT Thu Aug 27 2020

   Areas affected...portions of southern LA

   Concerning...Tornado Watch 453...

   Valid 270641Z - 270945Z

The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 453 continues.

SUMMARY...A threat for tornadoes will continue with embedded
supercells in bands associated with Hurricane Laura. Individual
cells will track northwestward around 50 kt, as the system as a
whole shifts northward around 13 kt.

DISCUSSION...Two notable bands wrapping around the eastern periphery
of Hurricane Laura continue to show multiple embedded supercells
with low level rotation in region radar velocity data. Individual
cells will track northwest around 50 kt. As a whole, Hurricane Laura
is slowly shifting northward around 13 kt per official National
Hurricane Center guidance. As a result, these outer bands will shift
gradually northward across south-central into central LA through the
early morning hours. Conditions will remain favorable for rapid
tornado development with any embedded supercell given the deep,
moist boundary layer and extreme vertical shear/low-level SRH.
