   Mesoscale Discussion 1593
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
   1110 AM CDT Thu Aug 27 2020

Areas affected...southeast LA...southern into central MS

   Concerning...Tornado Watch 454...

   Valid 271610Z - 271815Z

The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 454 continues.

SUMMARY...The tornado risk will primarily be confined to storms
located in a spiral band to the east/southeast of Laura through 1pm
   CDT.

DISCUSSION...Radar mosaic shows an extensive rain shield across the
northern half of Laura with scattered convection located in the
southeastern quadrant of the larger-scale system. A spiral band
with embedded deeper convection is elongated from near Lake
Pontchartrain into southern MS as of 11am CDT. As Laura continues
to move to the north over the next few hours, this bands will
likewise translate north and include parts of central MS. KDGX VAD
shows an enlarged low-level hodograph with around 250 m2/s2 0-1km
SRH when accounting for observed storm motions (considerably less
than the default Bunkers Internal Dynamic method's estimate).
Surface conditions show lower 80s temperatures with upper 70s F
dewpoints---yielding marginal buoyancy. Given the shear/buoyancy of
the mesoscale environment, transient low-level rotation will likely
continue with the stronger updrafts through the early afternoon. A
brief tornado or two may result.
