NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0250 PM CDT Fri Aug 28 2020
Areas affected...southeast PA...southern NJ...northern
DE...northeast MD
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 464...
Valid 281950Z - 282115Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 464
continues.
SUMMARY...A swath of strong to severe gusts (50-65 mph) will move
across southeast PA during the next few hours before reaching the
coast.
DISCUSSION...Radar mosaic shows a mature squall line over southeast
PA extending southwest to near the MD/PA border northwest of
Baltimore. The airmass ahead of the storms is characterized as
moderately unstable with mid 80s to 90 deg F surface temperatures
and dewpoints in the lower 70s. The Reading, PA (KRDG) ASOS
recently measured a 50-kt gust at 329pm EDT with passage of the
squall line. The squall line will likely move into the greater
Philadelphia vicinity during the next 1-2 hours. The strongest
gusts will probably occur with embedded inflections/bows in the
squall line or with the deeper convective cores.
