Mesoscale Discussion 1651
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0938 AM CDT Mon Aug 31 2020
Areas affected...portions of central/southern Arkansas
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 477...
Valid 311438Z - 311615Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 477
continues.
SUMMARY...Convection continues to weaken across central Arkansas.
DISCUSSION...A cluster of storms over central Arkansas will continue
to percolate southeastward through the remainder of the morning
hours. While the overall severe threat has diminished as convection
has weakened, some sub-severe, but gusty winds could still accompany
this activity. The downstream airmass will continue to destabilize
with increasing daytime heating. However, convection will be on the
southern fringe of stronger effective shear and encounter poor
midlevel lapse rates. This should limit any re-intensification of
convection through early afternoon. A downstream severe thunderstorm
watch is not expected, and WW 477 is likely to be cancelled before
the 19z expiration time.
