Mesoscale Discussion 1667
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
1154 PM CDT Tue Sep 01 2020
Areas affected...Western/central Kentucky and far southern Indiana
Concerning...Severe potential...Watch unlikely
Valid 020454Z - 020630Z
Probability of Watch Issuance...20 percent
SUMMARY...A low risk for locally damaging winds and/or a brief
tornado may exist across western into central Kentucky into far
southern Indiana into the overnight.
DISCUSSION...A linearly organized band of convection, albeit with a
general recent diminishing trend in lightning flashes, may persist
east-northeastward across western into central Kentucky overnight.
Latest WSR-88D VWP data from KHPX/Fort Campbell, KY supports as much
as 200 m2/s2 of 0-1 km SRH. This degree of low-level shear will
support the possibility of evolving bows and a possibly a few
embedded mesovortices. Nocturnal influences on the boundary layer
with increasing CINH and weak parcel accelerations should limit the
overall severe potential, but locally strong wind gusts and/or a
brief tornado cannot be ruled out early in the overnight.
