Mesoscale Discussion 1674
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0518 PM CDT Thu Sep 03 2020
Areas affected...Maryland...Delaware...southeast
Pennsylvania...southern New Jersey
Concerning...Tornado Watch 485...
Valid 032218Z - 040015Z
The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 485 continues.
SUMMARY...The primary short-term threat for a brief tornado or
damaging wind gusts currently exists from eastern Maryland into
Delaware.
DISCUSSION...A long-lived cluster of storms has recently shown
stronger supercell characteristics with the leading cell, now moving
east of Annapolis and crossing over the Bay. Radar shows
considerable wrapping of precipitation around the broader
mesocyclone circulation, which could result in a several-mile-wide
area of wind damage in addition to sporadic touchdowns.
This threat will likely persist for an hour or two as it moves into
DE, when it will eventually interact with a cooler surface air mass
from the sea breeze.
