Mesoscale Discussion 1702
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0554 PM CDT Thu Sep 17 2020
Areas affected...northeast South Carolina into eastern North
Carolina
Concerning...Tornado Watch 493...
Valid 172254Z - 180100Z
The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 493 continues.
SUMMARY...The threat for a couple tornadoes continues this evening,
primarily from far northeast South Carolina into southeast North
Carolina.
DISCUSSION...The environment across southern parts of the watch
remains favorable for tornadoes, where dewpoints are at or above 75
F. The primary area of concern is with storms moving across the
Myrtle Beach area, where velocity couplets have been noted on radar.
Low-level wind shear remains favorable as well, with 0-1 SRH in
excess of 200 m2/s2 measured on the LTX VWP.
The widespread convection and rain over northern areas may limit the
threat there, but the higher dewpoints across the south will
maintain sufficient instability to support a continued tornado
threat.
