Mesoscale Discussion 1708
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0520 PM CDT Wed Sep 23 2020
Areas affected...Southeast LA...Southwest MS
Concerning...Tornado Watch 494...
Valid 232220Z - 240015Z
The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 494 continues.
SUMMARY...Tornado threat continues across southeast LA and southwest
MS.
DISCUSSION...Remnants of Tropical Cyclone Beta are ejecting
northeast across southern LA this evening. Warm front-like boundary
has advanced to near the MS/LA border and this wind shift serves as
the demarcation for surface-based buoyancy and more elevated
convection farther north. Over the last few hours, several supercell
structures have evolved near the front, but quickly lift north atop
somewhat cooler more stable boundary layer. Given these trends, it
would appear possible that new supercells will evolve across
southeast LA then lift north where decoupling and some weakening is
expected. Greatest tornado threat will be as these storms transition
across the boundary.
