   Mesoscale Discussion 1733
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
   0338 PM CDT Sat Oct 10 2020

   Areas affected...Northern New York...northern Vermont...northern New
   Hampshire...and far western Maine.

   Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 499...

   Valid 102038Z - 102215Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 499
   continues.

SUMMARY...The threat for damaging winds continues into the evening.

DISCUSSION...Except for a few bowing segments, storms have been
relatively unorganized this afternoon, likely due to the limited
instability across northern New York and Vermont. There have been
several reports of damaging winds in the area despite the
unorganized storm mode. This is unsurprising given the CCX VWP now
shows 40 kt flow at 1km and 60 kts at 3km.

Storm activity moving into western Maine seems to contain the
strongest storms at this time. However, these storms are moving into
an increasingly stable airmass with time as the better low-level
moisture and cooler temperatures aloft are farther west. Therefore,
it is unclear how long this activity will continue to produce
damaging winds. No downstream watch has been issued up to this point
due to the localized area affected and aforementioned weakening
   instability.
