   Areas affected...Central and Northern Georgia

   Concerning...Tornado Watch 498...

   Valid 102317Z - 110115Z

The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 498 continues.

SUMMARY...An isolated tornado threat will continue across parts of
central and northern Georgia over the next couple of hours. The
threat should become more marginal after sunset as instability drops
   across the region.

DISCUSSION...Latest radar imagery shows scattered thunderstorms
across northwest Georgia with isolated storms in northern and
eastern Georgia. The storms in northwest Georgia are located along
the eastern edge of a 40 to 50 kt low-level jet max associated with
the remnants of Delta. The Atlanta WSR-88D VWP is sampling the jet
with a veering wind profile in the lowest 2 km AGL and 0-1 km shear
near 30 kt. In addition, the VWP has storm relative helicity near
475 m2/s2. This environment will continue to support an isolated
tornado threat with cells that rotate early this evening. A brief
tornado will be possible with the more prominent supercells.
However, as instability decreases especially after sunset, the
tornado threat should become more marginal. At this time, new watch
issuance beyond the 01Z expiration of tornado watch 498 is not
   expected unless trends suggest otherwise.
