Mesoscale Discussion 1752
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0438 PM CDT Fri Oct 23 2020
Areas affected...much of western Ohio...southeast Indiana...northern
Kentucky
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 501...
Valid 232138Z - 232345Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 501
continues.
SUMMARY...The severe threat persist across WW 501 as a line of
storms pushes east across Ohio and into northern Kentucky.
DISCUSSION...A line of storms producing localized severe gusts
continues to move east toward central Ohio, with a moist and
sufficiently unstable air mass in place. The width of the warm
sector should allow strong to severe storms to persist as they
continue across WW 501, with wind or marginal hail the primary
threat.
South of the original watch into northern Kentucky, a small area of
severe potential also exists. Several individual cells were noted on
radar ahead of the front, with hail cores to around 1.00". Effective
SRH around 100 m2/s2, ample instability of 1500+ SBCAPE and
sufficient deep-layer shear may continue to support perhaps a
supercell or two over the next couple hours as storms travel east
across far northern Kentucky. A southward watch extension has been
made by WFO ILN. Additional watches may not be necessary with a
relatively small threat area remaining to the south.
