   Mesoscale Discussion 1783
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
   0351 PM CST Tue Nov 10 2020

   Areas affected...much of Minnesota...far eastern South Dakota...far
   northwestern Iowa...far northwestern Wisconsin

   Concerning...Heavy snow

   Valid 102151Z - 110345Z

SUMMARY...Heavy snow (especially across southwestern Minnesota and
eastern South Dakota) will migrate/develop northeastward across the
   discussion area through the evening.

DISCUSSION...Over the past 2-3 hours, a band of heavy snow has
organized across southwestern Minnesota, eastern South Dakota, and
far northwestern Iowa. The band has developed in response to strong
lift associated with a mid-level trough and frontogenetical forcing
moving through that area. Rates greater than 1 inch per hour are
   likely beneath the band.

Models and observations indicate that this band of heavier snow will
develop northeastward along the track of the mid-level wave, with
heavier snow developing toward central Minnesota through 00-03Z and
and northeastern Minnesota/western Wisconsin thereafter. Rates
greater than 1 inch per hour will accompany the heavier
precipitation. Farther south (from south-central Minnesota into
west-central Wisconsin and vicinity), point forecast soundings
indicate warm air aloft that may promote occasional freezing rain
and sleet, which may temper snow accumulations.
