   Mesoscale Discussion 1788
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
   0943 PM CST Tue Nov 10 2020

   Areas affected...Minnesota Arrowhead and Vicinity

   Concerning...Heavy snow

   Valid 110343Z - 110745Z

SUMMARY...Heavy snowfall rates of 1+ inches per hour are possible
for the next 3-4 hours within the Minnesota Arrowhead and nearby
   vicinity.

DISCUSSION...A potent negatively-tilted shortwave trough now over
east-central Minnesota continues to move northeast. Strong mid-level
ascent will couple with a strong upper-level jet circulation to
produce efficient dendrite growth. Surface observation within the
Minnesota Arrowhead are already showing heavy snow occurring. As the
the shortwave shifts into Canada, snowfall rates will decrease from
southwest to northeast. While some sleet/freezing rain may occur
along the southeastern flank of the precipitation swath (portions of
northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula), substantial mid-level
cooling is forecast to occur and change precipitation over to snow.
The heaviest snow rates are expected to occur within the next 3-4
   hours.
