   Mesoscale Discussion 1827
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
   0912 AM CST Wed Dec 02 2020

   Areas affected...Portions of southern KS...northwestern OK...and the
   extreme eastern TX/OK Panhandles

   Concerning...Heavy snow

   Valid 021512Z - 021915Z

SUMMARY...A narrow band of moderate to heavy snow with rates around
1 inch per hour should continue this morning before potentially
weakening and reforming later this afternoon.

DISCUSSION...Recent water vapor satellite imagery shows a well
defined mid-level low centered over the eastern TX Panhandle and
western OK this morning. Large-scale forcing for ascent associated
with this mid-level low (divergence aloft), combined with
frontogenesis mainly in the 850-700 mb layer, are supporting a
narrow deformation band of moderate to heavy snow across a small
part of northwestern OK, southern KS, and the extreme eastern
portions of the TX/OK Panhandles. Saturation and continued lift
through the dendritic growth zone should support snowfall rates
around 1 inch per hour in this narrow north-south oriented band
through the remainder of the morning. This band may weaken somewhat
by early afternoon as the mid/upper-level low pivots slowly eastward
across the TX/OK Panhandles and western OK. However, the
precipitation field across northwestern OK and vicinity may expand
as this occurs, with a broader area of moderate to heavy snow
possibly developing across this region later this afternoon as the
deformation band eventually reforms and becomes oriented more
   west-east with time.
