Mesoscale Discussion 0319
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
1122 PM CDT Tue Apr 06 2021
Areas affected...Central Kansas
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 73...
Valid 070422Z - 070615Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 73
continues.
SUMMARY...Strong/severe thunderstorms continue across central
Kansas.
DISCUSSION...Diffluent high-level flow ahead of approaching upper
trough remains favorable for venting convection aloft. Earlier
prefrontal convection has matured into an MCS that is propagating
across central KS. Leading edge of this complex is bowing east in
excess of 30kt, with a trailing flank that becomes more discrete
northwest of Medicine Lodge in Pratt/Barber County. Over the last
hour or so, stronger hail cores have weakened, though some large
hail threat remains with the southern-most convection. With outflow
now sagging up to 30 miles south of the MCS, the primary risk for
severe appears to be shifting to the southern portions of ww73.
