Mesoscale Discussion 0439
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0358 PM CDT Thu Apr 07 2022
Areas affected...northeastern SC into southeastern NC
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 105...
Valid 072058Z - 072300Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 105
continues.
SUMMARY...The risk of large hail and a few locally damaging wind
gusts will continue spreading northeastward across southeastern NC
this afternoon.
DISCUSSION...Latest radar imagery shows a few semi-discrete,
splitting supercell structures evolving northeastward from
northeastern SC into southeastern NC. Here, there have been multiple
reports of large hail, including one report of 2 in hail. As these
storms continue moving northeastward, additional large hail and
perhaps a few locally damaging wind gusts will be possible -- aided
by 45+ kt effective bulk shear and nearly 2000 J/kg MLCAPE. The
greatest risk should be across the northwestern portion of WW105
(inland of a marine boundary along the coast) -- where inhibition
will be reduced owing to steeper low-level lapse rates.
