   Mesoscale Discussion 0850
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
   0915 PM CDT Tue May 23 2023

   Areas affected...northwest Texas

   Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 234...

   Valid 240215Z - 240415Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 234
   continues.

SUMMARY...Damaging-wind and large-hail threat continues within
   WW234. Damaging wind threat increasing.

DISCUSSION...Recent radar imagery depicts a bowing line of storms
moving east-southeastward across portions of northwest Texas. Ahead
of this line, a cluster of semi-discrete cells have been ongoing,
with reports of hail up to 2 inches. A similar storm mode is ongoing
across the southern fringe of the line, with reports of hail as
large as 1.5-2 inches in the last hour. Expect the line to overtake
remaining semi-discrete cells within the next hour.

Further radar analysis indicates a rear-inflow jet (around 60-70 kts
at 4-5 kft as noted by KDYX) is becoming established north and west
of Abilene. Potential for damaging winds is increasing as continued
upscale growth and propagation along the cold pool continues. Gusts
up to 70 mph will be likely (with isolated gusts up to 75 mph).
